The title of this book is literal. I drive by, camera in hand, stretching my body through the window, to rapidly capture the moment. Yet the title also plays on the heartache of Baltimore, a city infamous for its high homicide and crime rates. Baltimore beloved and beleaguered. My aim is to provide a portrait of city dwellers that offers hope and connection amidst much yearning and despair and of landscapes of worn beauty and decay, waiting to be rediscovered and renewed. If the book evokes a sad yet compassionate pathos in the reader, it has had the desired impact.
